Woodale YJP and Corballis Farm Horse Trekking & Therapeutic Riding Centre

On 25th May 2025, 3 Young People and 1 Youth Justice Worker received a Certificate in Equestrian and Stable Management from the Association of Irish Riding Establishments (AIRE).

Woodale YJP brought 3 young people to Corballis in Donabate every Wednesday for 8 weeks and Certification was awarded following successful completion of the 8 week programme and final assessment also.

This was a really enjoyable programme where we learned the basics of riding, such as how to mount & dismount, control the horses’ movements (walk, trot, canter) and maintain balance.

We learned how to develop effective communication with the horse through the use of legs, seat & hands and understanding the horses response.

We did some riding in the arena for specific exercises and some trail riding to learn safe practices for navigating various terrains and dealing with potential hazards.

Some of the horse care skills learned included grooming, stabling and stable management, proper use and maintenance of equipment (saddles, bridals, etc).

We are very proud of the young people who received their Certificates and we are excited to continue our collaboration with Corballis Farm Horse Trekking & Therapeutic Riding Centre in the future.
