Recently, Sphere 17 were delighted to be working along side Creative Places Darndale – a three year arts development project funded by Dublin City Council and Arts Council Ireland, in a 6 week stilt walking programme. Our group of five young women attended weekly workshops to practice their skill before showcasing their newly acquired talent in a parade which marked the Creative Places Launch on Culture Night 17th September 2021 in Darndale Belcamp Village Centre. Our young people were very excited to be the first point of contact for the Lord Mayor Alison Gilliland on her arrival and welcomed her to the event in their bright and colourful stilt walking fashion! This was a huge achievement and we are extremely proud of the group members, who 6 weeks ago had never walked on stilts. Not only did they gain a fantastic skill and learn about all the elements involved in stilt walking but they gained confidence in their ability and had lots of fun along the way too.
