Youth Information Initiative Launch ... « VIEW LATEST NEWSLAUNCH OF YII - YOUTH INFORMATION INITIATIVE
The Lord Mayor Councillor Eibhlin Byrne launched YII, a new youth initiative in Dublin 17 on Thursday 30th April. YII is a new Youth Information Initiative developed by the Northside Citizens Information Service, Sphere17, Northside Community Law Centre and the Northside Partnership to address the information needs of young people in the community. Based in the citizens’ information service model, this pioneer initiative will be run by a group of young people trained to deliver a free, confidential and independent information service to other young people by providing weekly information clinics. In her address, the Lord Mayor emphasised the importance of having access to information as an important tool for making change possible and expressed her pleasure at seeing these young people taking such positive action and being so committed to their community. Mick Ferron, Manager of Sphere17, welcomed this initiative which embodied the spirit of the centre – a place where young people can realise their potential. Their messages resonated with the young participants, one of whom, Shanice Mooney stated in her speech that she had not only “learn(t) what it means to be an information officer and how to deliver the information to the public but also to test ourselves and make us go a bit further than we thought we could…..” YII information clinics will take place every Thursday from 5 pm in Sphere 17 Regional Youth Centre, Darndale, Dublin 17.
