As the Traveller Youth Worker in Sphere 17 I decided that the best way to engage the Traveller parents of the kids that attend our groups would be to host a coffee morning with the prospect of setting up a parent’s forum. The idea behind the coffee morning was to introduce myself as the Traveller Youth Worker of Sphere 17 and increase my profile within the Travelling community in Cara Park and in turn the wider Travelling community in Sphere 17 catchment area. A coffee morning was organised in the Youth Activity Centre in Priorswood on Tuesday the 10th of March, where tea and coffee and some buns were provided. Quite a number of parents where informed both in Trav – Act and on the site through leaflets, flyers, emails and word of mouth. The morning itself was very successful with a large number of parents attending and engaging with youth workers about the service provided and ideas of what could be provided.
