Galway World Cup 2010 ... « VIEW LATEST NEWSItaly might have been knocked out of the World Cup but the lads from Dublin 17 weren’t going down the same road. (Italy was their adopted team for the tournament). Armed with high spirits, good humour, exceptional talent, some dodgy music (Sorry Mario) and enough hair gel to keep Peter Marks in business for a year they headed to Galway with romance / victory in sight!! Team Coach and all round motivator Marius McGarrell (formerly of Sphere 17 R.Y.S. now moving to Fulham F.C.) seized the opportunity to discuss tactics, strategies and team work en route to Galway. Fired up for some good football and healthy competition we arrived in Galway all guns / speakers blazing! They lads played a stormer over the two days and showed great sportsmanship both on and off the pitch. They were particularly supportive of their European colleagues France (I’m sure that was nothing to do with France being an all female team!) :0 The event was a great experience for all involved. Team Captain Paddy Red Collins was chosen to referee the Youth Workers Match. Paddy took his role very seriously and Mario was lucky not to see the side line! Ritchie learned that girls can play pool and on occasion beat him! Paddy Ellis learned the cost of mobile phone bills as it was glued to him the entire weekend and Scooby Eoin Kinsella learned that GOAL is not always just a ball in the back of a net!! Now back to the football the Lads were very impressive over the two days only being defeated in 1 match. They knocked out our old rivals Balbriggan from last year in the league, went on to beat a Monaghan Team in the semi final (Marius had a dilemma!!) and then convincingly won the Final over opponents from Foyle Youth Service in Derry. Many thanks to all who were involved and well done to: Paddy Collins, Ritchie Mc Donagh, Dale Franzoni, Corey Franzoni, Kevin Curtis, Kevin Darling, Paddy Ellis, Eoin Kinsella, Jordan Darling, Kevin Darling (Sr), Johnny Mc Guinness, Marius Mc Garrell & Carol Kinsella. ![]() |
