We said we would keep you posted! We are very glad to report that we won The Young Environmentalist Award under the category of Water. The Award Ceremony was held in the Mansion House and it was a great day out. We got to meet up with lots of other groups from all over Ireland. We even did an interview with RTE!!! So look out for us on the telly in the near future! Well done again to Mark and Robbie! Health: What’s happened in the youth health calendar in April and May?? On the 20th April, Sphere 17 had a visit from IWitness, which is a documentary series which portrays meaningful experiences and broadcasts each night on RTE 1. Each broadcast is only a minute long and gives the viewer a small insight into everyday lives. Needless to say this generated some excitement in Sphere17 and we had plenty of budding little actors and actresses wanting to have their say on what Sphere17 means to them. So on Monday 20th April the cameras rolled and some fantastic footage was caught on camera and aired on RTE 1 on the 25th May after the 11pm news. It showed our Monday afternoon drop in in the regional building in Darndale and some of the activities that young people engage in. It also featured some little stars by the names of Katie McCabe, Tadgh Maguire and James Casey. The three young people talked about their experience of Sphere 17 and what it means to be able to come to Sphere 17 and do the things they enjoy. Each young person that spoke will be rewarded with a DVD of the programme. So a big THANK YOU to all the young people involved in the programme, not just the talkers but the game players. They were all fantastic on the day and really showed Sphere 17 as the fun and bright place that it is. You can access the programme on the RTE website under IWitness and look under programme archives 25th May 2009. Tattersalls: 3 young people from Sphere 17 were invited to attend Tattersalls International Horse Trials 2009. This event incorporates the HSBC FEI World CupTM Eventing Qualifier . At close of entries some 300 horses and their riders from 10 nations took part in the spectacular international horse trials held in Co.Meath. The young people chosen were Mark Kelly, John Darling and Stephen Byrne. They were met on the day by the organiser Susanne Macken who allocated them jobs for the event. The young people did Sphere 17 very proud by their professional attitude to their tasks, which included working the arena gate for the competing riders and assisting the arena staff with jumps. The group have been invited back for another international showjumping compeition at the end of July where they will be assisting in the stables with the FEI vet with checks on international horses and again as part of the arena party ensuring all jumps are correct. Along with the beautiful weather on the day it made for a very enjoyable event, the group were also in prime shot for the SKY Sports channel coverage so keep your eyes peeled for some Sphere 17 familiar faces! ![]() |
